Oriental Manicure
It hasn’t been that long since manicurists catered to the wealthy and worked mostly in remote hair salons. While people like Cher were getting her nails done, the rest of us weren’t. However today there are, stand alone nail salons along every strip mall and commercial block of cities from South Carolina to Southern California. Nails magazine pegged the market at $6 billion in 1996 for salon services alone, up from $5.2 billion a year earlier. About 239,000 manicurists work as nail technicians, complete with license no less. For comparisons sake, the Business Software Alliance counted only about three times that many people were employed in the software industry.
The industry has been hiding in plain sight. There’s also the matter of the businesses you don’t see as you walk down the street including the distributors and manufacturers that supply the salons. Nailpro, which is another trade magazine, lists nearly 400 manufacturers in its 1997 Gold Book directory. These companies manufacture everything from toe less pedicure socks, polish racks, manicure tables, acrylic nail compounds, nippers, and polishes to nail nippers. Everything you see was developed over the last 20 years. Nail salons may not be the biggest business in America, but they’re a growth industry that certainly sprang up without much notice.
Oriental Manicure salons offer a manicure like none you’ve ever had before. Your hands are massaged while your nails are buffed, filed to perfection and then finished with healthful and natural conscious Zoya; polish with staying power or as an alternative, colored gel polish.
They also offer a pedicure like no other: The deluxe spa pedicure. Recline and relax in a luxurious and comfortable treatment chair while your feet are treated to a different world that leaves your skin unbelievably silky soft and your nails polished to perfection. Read the latest magazines and sip tea sink back in the chair with a soothing pillow for a restful nap while allowing your feet to enjoy some wonderful pampering. Is it any wonder why they are such big business in America, and everywhere else around the world for that matter?
